A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BROTHERS OF ST. PATRICK

The Congregati on of the Brothers of the St. Patrick or the Patrician Brothers as they are popularly known, began in the small town of Tullow, Ireland on 2nd February, 1808. The Congregati on was founded by Rt. Rev. Dr. Daniel Delany, under the patronage of St. Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland. In 1846 the Brothers sailed across the Atlanti c Ocean to Balti more, USA and laid the foundati on for their fi rst mission abroad. In 1875, the fi rst foundati on of the Patrician Brothers’ was laid in Chennai, India. In 1883, another group of Patricians arrived in Maitland, New South Wales, Australia. Aft er establishing themselves, the Brothers moved to Papua New Guinea, an island that needed the Brother’s assistance.

In 1961, the Brothers extended their mission to Kenya. The Indian Province later launched initi ati ves in Ghana in 2007, followed by South Sudan and Dubai in 2012. Today, the Patrician Brothers proudly celebrate over two centuries of unwavering commitment to educati on, having touched and transformed countless lives around the world. With a disti nguished legacy of 150 years of educati onal service in India since their arrival in 1875, the Brothers conti nue to inspire and make a lasti ng impact. Their global presence now spans a wide network of schools, colleges, boarding houses, technical insti tuti ons, and non-formal educati on centers across Ireland, the United States of America, India, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Kenya, and Ghana.
